Please consult the web pages of our suppliers for detailed information on the numerous species of timber available to you: BEDSON TIMBERS and SILVERTON TIMBER MERCHANT

Here is a file contains information specifications for most common timber varieties available. The information describes the timbers in terms of  hardness, durability, resistance to insect attack, density and expected life spans, among others... very interesting - TIMBER VARIETY SPECS

Timbermann highly recommends and promotes the use of one of the best decking/flooring timbers we have come across - Eucalyptus  paniculata (GREY IRONBARK) & Eucalyptus sideroxylon (Red Ironbark)

This exceptionally hard timber with its stunning grain patterns in either a light yellow/brown or deep red/brown, is known for its natural resistance to rot and insect attack - making it an ideal candidate for construction of items exposed to the elements. Typically Ironbark is used in the construction of road and railway bridges, wharfs, mining applications and for railways sleepers due to its proven record for long-term performance in weather-exposed structural applications.

Furthermore, we source our Ironbark locally. This means that supply is more readily available than most of the imported timbers. It also means that we get this spectacular timber at a reasonable price and that the cost is not affected by fluctuating rand/dollar exchange rates.

The Ironbark, in South Africa, has been declared an invader. Not only will you be purchasing one of the hardiest and most beautiful timbers available, but you will be contributing to conservation in Southern Africa by consuming timber from trees which pose risk to our country due primarily to their massive water consumption. ASGAP

ZAMBIAN TEAK - as mentioned on the HOME page, is a far superior product compared to the typical Zimbabwean (Rhodesian) Teak. Once skilfully kilned and carefully milled, the product then undergoes a pressure penetrative treatment process with chemicals which make it resistant to insect attack. Pressure treatment is important as it forces the chemical to saturate the timber throughout - so it does not wear out or fade away.
